Hiking the Appalachian Trail: Connecticut Adventure - Day 102 (2026)

Today's adventure takes us on a journey through the state line, from New York to Connecticut, a significant milestone for our hiker. After a much-needed rest, our hiker embarked on a relaxed morning, a welcome change from the back-to-back 25-mile days.

The day began with an easy mile, a gentle climb, and a sense of anticipation as they crossed into a new state. Connecticut, the 10th state on the trail, offered a fresh perspective and a chance to reflect on the journey so far.

One of the challenges our hiker faced was breaking in new shoes, a common dilemma for long-distance hikers. Despite the initial discomfort, the new shoes were an improvement, a reminder that adjustment is often necessary and rewarding.

A river break provided a refreshing moment, a chance to soak tired feet and enjoy the calmness of the trail. The covered bridge, a short diversion, added a touch of history and charm to the hike.

Kent, CT, welcomed our hiker with a steep climb, a test of endurance. A fall into the brush, though harmless, served as a reminder of the physical demands of the trail. The view from the top, a reward for the effort, offered a moment of reflection and connection with fellow hikers.

The last few miles into Kent were a test of perseverance, with steep ups and downs. A long, steep descent led to a well-deserved break in Kent, where our hiker could replenish and prepare for the next leg of the journey.

Cozzy's on Main provided a much-needed fuel stop, a chance to recharge with burgers and pizza. The hiker's appetite, a testament to the physical demands of the trail, was satisfied with a 14-inch pizza shared among three.

The day's hike concluded with a successful arrival at the Stewart Hollow Brook Shelter, a cozy end to a rewarding day. The Housatonic River, a beautiful backdrop, added a touch of serenity to the evening hike.

In my opinion, this journey highlights the physical and mental challenges of long-distance hiking. It's a testament to the human spirit and our ability to adapt and overcome. Each state line crossed is a milestone, a reminder of the progress made and the adventures yet to come.

What makes this journey particularly fascinating is the human element. It's a story of endurance, perseverance, and the simple joys found along the trail. From the comfort of new shoes to the satisfaction of a well-earned meal, it's a reminder that the journey is as much about the experiences as it is about the destination.

As our hiker continues their journey, I can't help but feel a sense of admiration and curiosity. What new adventures and challenges await? The trail, with its twists and turns, offers an unpredictable journey, and I, for one, am eager to follow along.
